Final Evaluation

How did your work evolve through the project?

My themes idea one evolved as its original concept was a split between city and forest. I changed this as it was proving more difficult than originally intended.

What was your theme?

My theme was to show a post-apocalyptic nature. I wanted to show a reality in which the humans have since disappeared and the world is healing in their absence.

What are the strengths of your project as a whole? What went well?

The strengths of this project was the theme. Man Vs Nature was a good choice as nature is major to earth. I wanted to play with this subject of the earth and make a project out of this and I feel like this was portrayed well. My finals went well. I like how they were subjective to the fact that the humans are gone and nature has overtaken.

What are the downfalls of your project as a whole? what could be improved?

My downfalls for this project were my experiments. While I think my experiments were good there were assets of it that I feel could be improved. For improvement on them, I would use better images for them.

Do you feel that you have shown understanding of your theme? if so how?

I feel like I have shown understanding of my theme as my theme is post-apocalyptic. My finals have shown the understanding that I have. For my finals, I produced 5 outcomes which I edited to appear as if they were taken in an environment of disrepair.

The finals show an environment where nature has reclaimed land the humans once inhabited and I feel like that related to my theme positively.

How do your outcomes link to your aims/theme?

My outcomes link to my theme as they show human civilization crumbling in the absence of the humans. They link as the theme was to show a world after humans are gone. my outcomes show this.

Between secondary and primary research, which was more effective within your project and helping you form and develop ideas?

Primary research was more effective as it gave me hands-on experience with the researched photographers work. Capturing shots in their style helped inspire some ideas for my outcomes.

What research stood out and inspired you?

Looking at Vladimir Manyuhins work, it helped inspire my entire theme. The work he did with his Moscow edits and time square really influenced the work I produced. His work really stood out to me as it was exactly the type of work I wanted to produce myself.

How did the research support your project and the development of it?

The research I did helped the development of my project as the photographer's I researched into helped influence my theme and ideas to steer towards post-apocalyptic.

How did you problem solve through the project?

For idea one of my ideas, I changed the original idea as it was to complicated. To problem solve with this, I changed it to an easier idea as this was more efficient for my time.

What problems or issues did you face and how did you work around these?

I faced difficulties with my ideas as I found them challenging, but I got through and aided myself in making this easier by making necessary changed to alleviate the effects.

Did you plan your shoots well? and how?

My plan for shoots shows and explains what I was intending to do for my shoots. My portraits plan showed what lighting I wanted and what I wanted to capture.

What would you do differently next time in terms of time-management/ self-management?

I would use my time more efficiently and take things one step at a time instead of trying to get as much done at once.

What did you learn from the process of creating and undertaking a self-directed project?

I learnt that a self-directed project is heavily dependant on time management. To get through it independently you need to ensure you manage that time effectively to ensure you stay within the project timeline.

Are there any areas that you could improve on and if so how?

What I would improve on is my time management. I would like to use my time more effectively so I am able to achieve more in the time I am assigned.

Did you learn anything new through creating your FMP project?

I learnt how to do composite editing. Changing a picture and manipulating it to my will. Its a topic that has interested me and I would gladly expand further on work such as this.

Visually, are your images successful? and why?

Visually I think my finals were successful. They follow the intended theme and they work well. The foliage and decay presented in the finals came out very successful.

Did your skills develop in the project?

My skills did develop in this project as I didn't have any history of composite editing before this project. This project was the first time I had dabbled with composite and I really developed this skill, evidence of this being my finals.

Did you learn from peer or tutor feedback?

From peer feedback on my finals, I learn that shading is very important when doing edits. Shading gives the image realism and stability to make the viewer believe it's real and not fake.

Again on feedback

Was there a moment that you changed your ideas or approach based on feedback or reflection?

I changed my idea one due to the difficulty that came along with it. while it was achievable, the shots required to make the edit were difficult to get. This is when I decided to change it to a double exposure. I reflected on this and it is how I came to the conclusion to change the idea.
